Poole Road Crossing Update
We have had the following update about the pedestrian crossing on Poole Road from Councillor John Beesley.
He comments: "The traffic signal equipment at the pedestrian crossing outside the entrance to Westbourne Arcade had to be disconnected as there was a serious electrical fault detected which could have led to it becoming live. The Council could not run the risk of a member of the public being injured by this old, life-expired, equipment."
"This crossing is an important facility in the heart of Westbourne and the Council is taking immediate action to replace it as soon as possible. In discussion with the local Councillors, it has been decided to replace it with a Zebra crossing of the same general type as those at the junction of Poole Road and Seamoor Road. I should emphasise that there has never been any suggestion that this important facility would be abandoned and it has been confirmed that this work will be done as soon as the necessary supplies are delivered. "
"As many people have told me, many elderly people use this important shopping area. To help them to cross the road more safely, it is intended to provide a second additional Zebra crossing across Poole Road roughly opposite the lane which leads to the car park in Milburn Road. This will be installed later this year once the necessary design work has been completed."
